What makes Playsticity unique? It's our focus on unstructured, imagination-centered activities.

Unlike most daycares, after school programs, & childminding facilities, we know that giving kids the freedom to play and imagine is crucial for developing strong executive function (EF) skills.

MEET KASEY- THE FOUNDER

Hey there! I’m Kasey, the brains and heart behind Playsticity. A few years ago, while working as a resource teacher, I noticed more and more students struggling with Executive Functioning (EF) skills. This sparked my curiosity and led me to dive into professional development opportunities. I discovered fascinating strategies and learned how ADD is closely tied to EF difficulties.

I’ve always been someone who focuses on preventing issues rather than treating them once they arise. This mindset comes from my own experience with Type 1 Diabetes and my career in elementary education. I believe in being proactive and setting yourself up for success in any scenario.

I was born and raised in Dunbar, received my Bachelors of Education from the University of Victoria, and now I live and teach in Vancouver. Over the years, I’ve worn many hats: nanny, coach, teacher-librarian, birthday party host, behaviour interventionist, resource teacher, summer camp leader, event coordinator, and classroom teacher. Working with kids brings me so much joy, and I’m excited to continue this journey through Playsticity, a project I'm truly passionate about.

WHAT’S IN A NAME?

In case you’re curious, Playsticity (play-stĭ-city) is a play on words! I initially meant it to be a combination of the words ‘play’ and ‘neuroplasticity’, which are both key aspects of my ultimate goal. However, I also like to think it represents ‘play + stuck-in-the-city’, which emphasizes how I believe I can help address a modern urban challenge - lack of space and time for child-led free play!
